Bring the Scramble to your city.
Sparrow Scramble was built from the start to support more than one city. The platform handles registration, scheduling, scoring, and leaderboards — a league organizer handles the local community.
Everything the portal does, for your players
Every feature Kalamazoo players use is available to any city that runs a Scramble: the upcoming-matches board, the match-proposal and join flow, NMJL score entry, dual leaderboards, the member directory, email confirmations, and the full admin surface for organizers.
Your city gets its own subdomain, its own player roster, and its own leaderboards. Players in Kalamazoo can't see your city's scores; yours can't see theirs. The format is the same — the community is your own.
Run the community; the software handles the rest
A league organizer in a new city is responsible for three things:
- Recruiting players. Fifteen to twenty is a good first season. Enough for four-player matches to form organically; not so many that the community feels anonymous.
- Setting up each quarter. Pass prices and the NMJL card year every quarter; the paid-player floor and its decision date for your first one. The platform enforces the structure; you decide the parameters.
- Handling disputes and edge cases. Score corrections, late registrations, player questions. The admin panel gives you the tools; judgment is yours.
Registration fees flow through Stripe into an account you control. The platform takes a small per-registration fee to cover infrastructure and support. Reach out and we'll walk through the specifics.
Calendar quarters, NMJL card
The Sparrow Scramble format is fixed: calendar quarters with a pass for each, National Mah Jongg League card. The match structure — four players, four games, in person — stays the same across cities. That consistency is part of what makes the league feel like something.
If you run a different local variant, the Scramble probably isn't the right fit yet. The platform isn't a generic mahjong tool; it's built around this specific format. That scope is intentional.
One conversation, then a pilot quarter
There's no application. Send a note — introduce yourself, your city, and roughly how many players you have in mind. If the timing and fit work, we'll set up a pilot quarter together: a subdomain, an admin account, and someone to answer questions along the way.
Kalamazoo was the pilot. It's now in its second year. A second city is the natural next step.
